Saturday

A nice day with dryer air than earlier in the week. We hoped for good wave-conditions, but didn't get the best. A lot of flying, 45 starts, both ridge, thermals and waves. Highest flight to 3500m QFE. We towed until around 18:00 and pilots started to pack the equipment in the afternoon at the last day of Wavecamp 2010. 

Friday

At last a good Vågå-day. The weather forecast showed better weather with wind from south. We could see lentics in all directions, and the highest flight was to 6300 m above the lake. 38 flights in total, 21 flights had a gold hight (more than 3000m altitude gain), and 3 diamond hights (5000m gain). Faye Riegel got the first price in the photo contest (pictures will be uploaded later)

Thursday

The day started optimistic, but we had to stop after a few starts when we got rain and fog. Around 16 the sun started shining and we started to fly again. Highest flight to 3350m and 24 starts in total.

Wednesday

Only seven flights as the weather was not good. We limited the operations to two gliders in the air, and the flights was mainly checkflights and trainingflights. 

Tuesday

38 flights Tuesday, highest flight 2500 m north of Kvitingskjølen in the last part of the day. Also some wave-system in the east, by Blåhø. The day started with sun and some weak thermals, but we soon had a cloud-cover over the area. We had to stop flying around early afternoon due to snow coming in from south. 

Monday

37 flights this day. Highest flight to 1750m on a weak wave. The wind picked up from south and we had ridge-conditions during the day as well. Anders Hamre had a presentation from Junior Worlds 2009 - download the presentation and view the video.

Sunday

This was the day for checkflights, to check both the glider, area and pilots. All gliders are on the ice, 37 flights on Sunday. No conditions to stay up long. Two of three tugs has arrived, the last is stuck in fog at Elverum.

We well have the traditional photocontest this year also. More information will be given at the briefings. 

Driving directions

Short version: From Oslo you follow E6 north to Otta, the left onto road 15 to Vågå. Drive safely!

Customs regulation - import of glider

In case somebody run into problems at the boarder - here are a quote (translated) from Tolltariffens Innledende bestemmelse §13 pkt. 5: "...people residing abroad can bring their aircrafts, vehicles, yacht (registered abroad) in to the country on a temporary basis without tax (and deposit). This also applies to VAT." Almost the same text applies to spare parts - refer to §13 pkt 7

Ice status

Visited Vågå last Saturday, and also had a trip to the (to be) airfield. Some snow on the ice, but not a problem to solve. We didn't drill in the ice, but Dag checked some days earlier and reported 60-80 cm. Pictures are in the gallery.

Operational procedures

Procedures and opertaional information has been published. No changes in the operational procedures this year. 

Calibration of loggers

A reminder: Remember to check if your logger needs calibration. We recommend that you calibrate your logger prior to the Wavecamp, and also bring a copy(!) of the calibration-documentation.

Camp fee due by the end of January

A reminder that the camp fee is due by the end of January. It is possible to pay on-line with Visa/Mastercard but the input-form is in Norwegian only (sorry about that)

A reminder for lodging alternatives

There are a good variaty of alternative lodging options at Vågå which you must book directly. The 2010-camp is in the Easter-week so if you are coming to the Wavecamp and want to stay at other places than the hotel or Smedsmo, pland and book soon. The Easter-week is a vacation-periode for Norwegians also. 

Booking will start mid November

Booking will open mid november, and the price-list for the hotel has been updated. We have managed to lower(!) the price for hotelrooms with 5% compared to 2009.  We are still waiting for a confirmation from Smedsmo regarding prices.

Webcam and weather

Two new webcams have been set up in the area. One in Vågåmo (looking east) and one at Gjende (30 kms SSW of Tesse). A thumbmail from the Vågåmo-cam is also on our homepage. We update the cams every hour, but the originals are updated more frequent. The weatherpage is also available with an updated forecast every day. 

We welcome you all in 2010

The 20th wavecamp will take place in March/April 2010. Registration will start mid november, main briefing will be in the evening 27 March and last full day will be 3 April. The camp and procedures will be more or less like the past years. Statistics from 2009 can be found here
